Goin out with a bang

In our last few weeks, I've become more and more interested in commercialism and mainstream media and it's effects on what differentiates art, parody, and "pop." I've also become too involved in my own creative process, and in the past couple projects I've found myself getting in my own way far too much. So, this project serves to peak those creative interests while also solving that issue above by being so hilariously bad that not even I want to get attached to it.
I'm also leaning much more into the "found" aesthetic of art, which I think has yet to be fully explored in a musical sense (think: most orchestras have the same instruments! what's up with that?) by using entirely stock presets for all of my synthesizers, vocal effects, and mastering chain. I'm also using a Linn Drum emulation for the drum kit, and to really hammer this theme home, I stole the melody from "Can you feel the love tonight" for the chorus.
The ethos of the project is summed up in this John Cage quote that McLuhan includes on page 119: "'The highest purpose is to have no purpose at all. This puts one in accord with nature, in her manner of operation.'" In creating something that was designed to be of no use to anyone, I have instead created a very self-serving piece of art, who's only joy came from the creation, and not from its existence. In doing this, I feel like I've unlocked a new part of my artistic process, where instead of making for the sake of a product or a result (which is itself a very narrow-minded thought process that's a product of our modern age), but instead for the sake of making it.
I hope this project brings you as much joy as a passing car that isn't too loud, or a friend trying to make conversation while you're running late to class. It certainly does for me now.
